Is it still a difficult process to create vinyl albums?

Continuing the discussion from Acoustic Emmasong - Were I to open my eyes:

I was responding to @Emma’s thread (above) and it raises the question (at least to me)…
Is it any easier to create vinyl nowadays? I know that it has re-surfaced in popularity recently. Just wondered if any technology has made the process any easier, cheaper, etc.

Any of you folks have experience in the vinyl medium?
