The choir sounds so much smoother now with just a minor volume tweak, @ingolee.
I’ve been listening to my original, too, and this version is better in every way- not as hot as original, and manually pitched corrected, and just fitting very nicely with all the other instruments. And the wind hiss and piano are now more expressive and fitting with the vocals. The guitar and bass also are quite present in the mix. They really pop at many points in natural gaps, and it sounds really good to me. Overall I love this mix! I think this is the one.
This sounds good, @ingolee, I can already imagine how it could mix into Song 2 No Turning Back, which has a pretty long instrumental intro.
a. Overlap
b. Silent gap
I will listen to all from the beginning soon just to confirm to myself it is flowing well, which I think it is.
So next we have bass and other tracks to No Turning Back and Cue 4. It may be clearer to call it Cue 2.1 and 2.2 and the next Cue 3.4. Maybe not! So 1.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.4 etc. (song # from beginning).(cue # from beginning).
I like it. I did feel that when Charlton (that’s me ) comes in his voice gets drowned out by the music and applause. The announcer voice loses impact. I’d like to hear the announcer come in bold enough to grab attention. You could automate things so the announcer gets a bit louder during that part, or “duck” the music behind the voice until it fades out. When the announcer voice stands on its own it seems okay volume-wise. Also, it sounds like you have a slight bit of audience walla-walla behind the announcer when the music and applause has faded, but I think it could be a little bit more. Just a low rumble, to make it feel just a bit more “live”. Maybe even a very low key/synth drone or something, just for fullness and suspense?
I haven’t looked in awhile, but I was thinking the same thing. When I uploaded the narration I thought it would be nice to have a folder for that and for each song/cue combo.
I will try to get back to the narration, but as I mentioned earlier my main production machine crashed right before I went on my trip, so getting back to GAOTSS could be a challenge. I’ll do what I can.
Thanks @Stan_Halen , I will try those tweaks you suggest. When you have a chance we did make some changes to Intro/Cue1, quoted here from the post above, if you could check it out?
Ah yes, I guess I missed that one. As we get close to a final mix on these, it might help if you list the changes or any concerns you might have? Since this is about 7 minutes it might make it easier to listen for particular things. I know we were going back and forth on BOD and sibilance on the vocals last week, going for some ‘presence’ but not too much or too little high end on piano. The only thing I notice is the vocals in the song seem to be low in level again and not as ‘present’ as the earlier mix I had heard 7-10 days ago.
Keep in mind I was on my main system with computer speakers I know quite well last week, and now I’m on a temporary setup with different speakers I’m just getting used to. I’m listening through some more, and sometimes it sounds fine, and then I think the vocals are too low. I tried to focus in to see if it was just certain sections, but my ears must be whacked from aircraft pressure changes or something. So take my comments with a grain of salt.
@ingolee, @Stan_Halen, I have reorganized the folders so POBP has the script subfolders for completed and each song has its own folder to drop files in.
Soon I will put all the individual tracks in Song 02.
I’m not able to fix the root cause, only the symptom.
The root cause is that the site uploader is embedding the wrong code to instanciate the site player. @holster is the only person who can ultimately fix the cause by investigating and fixing the reason why the uploader is not working as it once did.
In the meantime, if you want fix the player to work on the individual instances of the files you have uploaded, this is what I did:
I simply edited the posts that weren’t displaying the player and compared the lines of code in those files with the lines of code in a file where the player was displaying properly. I then copied the needed code from the correctly working files and pasted it into the incorrectly displaying files after deleting the extraneous code. If you have the preview pane displayed as you reply, you’ll see the player appear when you get the code correct.
I would be happy to go around and individually fix each instance where the players is not working, but I fear that would actually be counter-productive to fixing the root cause… “The squeaky wheel gets the grease”.
I have a couple updates to do on the software. That’ll likely fix the upload issue. In the meantime, it’s quite easy to fix the posts with the player missing
@steban and @Stan_Halen here is a new version of Cue 1 and POBP. The only change is to the vocal levels in the POBP song, see what you think.
And if this is OK should we post it in BTR, or would it be better to wait? Might be nice to get some suggestions before we go much further.
@holster and @ColdRoomStudio , thank you for your help here and for hosting this Interstellar extravaganza! I plan to go back and delete most of these duplicate mp3’s to save server space.
The vocal level is much better placed now. Sounds good to me.
I vote BTR. After hearing this a bunch of times I feel like I may have lost perspective, and as I said my temp setup has thrown my listening off which is understandable but frustrating.
