What Makes a Song Great?

This is a great series that Rick Beato has just started. The first two episodes demonstrate a breadth of real love and appreciation for music in all its forms.

This reminds me of playing in many cover bands way before the Internet age and tediously breaking down songs, working out parts for my bandmates just by listening over and over - It was a perfect way to gain an appreciation of the kind of stuff Rick demonstrates here - great for anyone who is writing and producing music…

He goes from the 3 chord punk of Blink 182 to the complex calypso jazz pop of The Police with equal enthusiasm, proving he is far from being a jazz snob. At the same time, he doesn’t shy away from “nerdy” music theory stuff either. That’s my wheelhouse!

It’s a real songwriting/production Masterclass. He has the multitrack stems too, so you get the complete breakdown of the parts. Worth checking out…
