What do you think?

Hi everyone!
Thanks for reading this short request!
I am attempting to get reviews on my new music out.

I have put it out on platforms, but I’m new so that I don’t know how people are feeling about it. Let me know what you think. :heartpulse:

Be Who You Are

Welcome! Thanks for joining us

I’m in a “virtual” meeting at the moment, but I’ll check it out as soon as I can. Looking forward to hearing your work. Feel free to post anything you’re working on and hit us up with any questions you have about the recording or mixing process. Great to have you here!

I finally had a chance to check it out! Sounding good to me. I like a lot of what’s going on with this one. If I were to offer any advice, I might recommend that the vocal comes down a bit so that it sits in with the rest of the mix. Right now (at least on my setup) the vocal seems a bit hot compared to the everything else on the song. And considering the genre, you’ll probably want that beat to step forward a bit in the mix.
Otherwise, I think it’s sounding great. I’m curious what the recording and mixing process was like for you in terms of what you did

The performance is really good. The song is nice and the beat sounds good for the style. However I think the vocals are a bit loud and need some processing to get them to fit in the mix. Also I think there is too much reverb on everything. I’d try a different reverb and remix everything to give everything more impact.

Thank you for listening and giving your feedback! I used Bandlab to create the beat, used a voice recorder on my phone to record my voice, and mixed it down in Bandlab. I then used Audacity to master it. I will take your advise and lower my vocals, turn up the beat and then re-master the track. Thank you for your time. I appreciate you…

Hi. Thank you for listening! Based on the reviews, I am going to turn down the vocals, turn up the beat, mix and re-master it. Oh, and look at the reverb. I believe the reverb is high due to the layering of the vocal tracks. I’ll make the upgrades. Thank you for your help!

Wowzers! I’m seriously impressed by the quality of recording on that vocal. Phone mics have sure come a long way.

Thanks. You know what’s funny? The app is so basic…lol. When I record, I don’t even use a mic. I do a good amount of layering of my vocals. So, I’ll record a second track with a lower octave, a higher octave and another track with my adlibs. Then I’ll add them all, double them (sometimes) and adjust the volume to give it a more round sound. I believe on that particular track, I was rushing to get it completed, so the vocals weren’t as crisp as they should have been. But I’ve been using regular phone voice recording apps for years. I have a fiction podcast that I’ve been recording since 2017 on Spotify, using the same type app. Check it out if your into mayhem and mystery.

Hi and welcome!

Nice work. I agree that the vocals are too loud. That’s usually a sign of lack of dynamic control.

To get vocals to sit in the mix properly, you need to really reduce their dynamic range. Usually multiple stages of compression and/or automation are required, because the voice is extremely dynamic compared to the highly compressed and limited samples that are usually used to generate beats/backing tracks.

There is also a really strong resonance in the vocals around the (guessing) 8k range - it reads as a kind of “hissy”-sounding artifact that accompanies the vocal phrases… It makes it slightly difficult for me to listen for extended periods, which is a shame, because I like the vocal performance…Combined with the very bright reverb used, it makes the vocal sound even louder and more disconnected from the music than it probably is.

Good to have you here!

Hi. Thank you for your review. Your response is helping me tune up my skills. I wasn’t fully aware of the hissing sound, but I do agree the reverb was very strong and reviews help me learn there is more to learn about my craft.

Looking forward to hearing it again after the fixes
I’d love to hear some of your other work too when you get a chance!
