This is a song that I posted on RR awhile back. Taking advantage of the advise that I received, I finally got around to doing a remix. Hopefully it sounds a bit better than my first attempt.
Howdy ocnor, this is a good tune with some outstanding performances. Nice work on the lead guitar! And you totally had me with that “…don’t give a flying care” line, I was waiting for the rhyme…! Kinda similar feeling to what inspired my most recent one, Head in the Sand…
I don’t recall hearing this on RR (and I am pretty sure I’d remember this one), so apologies if you are getting some repeated comments here. The opening guitar bit that has the chorus-ey, flange-y effect on it seems out of place with the rest of the sound. I like having that guitar phrase but I’d suggest some different fx on it to make it crunchier rather than phasey.
I’d also like to hear a bit more punch in the drums, especially the kick. There is a lot going on in the midrange, and having some more low end in general would help IMO.
Nice work!!
Thanks for listening and for the critique.
Wow, this is really different - kind of sounds a bit like a cross between Pink Floyd and Van Halen.
The musical mix is really well done well - nice internal balance between the instruments - it’s a very pristine kind of hifi sound, but it’s cool. It has a fairly lean and tight low end, but there is nothing wrong with that. That’s the kind of sound I hear in very early 90’s rock records before grunge hit.
One thing I think could be improved is the “proportion” of the vocals. I think if you trimmed more low end out of them, they wouldn’t sound so “Large” in comparison to the instruments.
The words are obviously very important in a “message” song like this, but simply turning up the vocals won’t enable you to retain the sense of power in the instrumental track that is appropriate. The vocals are very layered also, so you can afford to trim a lot of low end out of most of the vocal tracks and just leave one to provide that information.
Compressing some of the layers harder may help an appropriate sense of proportion too.
Was almost thinking the same thing The lyrics sound realy pink floyd inspired !
Good job!
Yeah, I had that “Animals” vibe going from this tune as well. Cool!
Thanks for the critique. I think that you nailed it. I did trim the vocals down on this mix but apparently not enough. I was afraid of trimming too much and making them anemic sounding.
Man that is one deep ass rabbit hole. For better or worse here is revision-B.
