Hey guys…I’ve seen most of the Dumble videos out there. Stumbled across this one recently that I hadn’t seen before.
I’ll probably never get to play one of these. And I have better things to spend $80,000 on (as most of us do also).
Tone is very Fender-esq in my opinion. But with a much more pleasant bite and crunch on the drive channel than a Fender. The drive tone really reminded me of a Budda Superdrive 30.
I almost bought a Dumble once. It was in the '80’s and SRV was getting well known and he was using Dumbles at the time. I was shopping for an amp in LA and somehow had Dumble’s address and phone number. When repeated phone calls went unanswered I tried to find the address in a run down area near East Los Angeles but had no luck with that either…
Dumble finally returned my call and we had a nice talk, I remember he had a very distinctive voice, heavy and deliberate but very articulate. His prices were not extreme then but there was about a year wait; plus I’d never played the amp and felt I should at least try one. Howard didn’t have one I could try he said. Somehow I found a used one (Howard may have known about it) at a well known LA retail store (don’t remember the name, it was in No. Hollywood) and went to play it. It wasn’t the Overdrive Special, as I recall it was quite large, possibly like a Bassman and very clean up to extreme levels; not for me.
So I bought a Boogie Mark III, great amp until the tubes became hard to find. Ah well, not even my worst mistake!
