The Detective Series

Just had another session with our region’s top police detective.
A couple of weeks ago we had out first recording session, where we recorded sections of three of his tunes according to my best effort. As a sound and setup test.
I have since created a Cubase template for what I think we’re looking at and it was pretty good. Just had to add some parallel compression on the vox today and some FX from GR5 !!
I really relate to his music and we had some good discussions.
In particular, we agreed on him having to sing the syllables shorter and more aggressively on one of his tunes - and I found myself saying “sing like the Police”. Doh.
It is a tune that is NOT a reggae tune, but where reggae-style singing makes sense…
One problem was when he plays live he uses harmonizing stomp boxes during some refrains and I haven’t found the same stuff in my gear yet.
Anyway, it is fun to work with someone who is that close in ‘style’. I have known him for years in the police-reporter dynamic and it’s interesting to note we only speak about music in this setting…
