Switching an electric to baritone

Have any of you switched your electric guitar to baritone (B standard) successfully? I’ve seen it done, but I’ve tried unsuccessfully on 2 different electrics I have. I just run into intonation problems and there is not enough room on the bridge(s) to adjust it fully.
I know regular baritone guitars have a longer scale length etc., but again, I’ve seen it done on standard electrics. Mark Lettieri is a good example of where I’ve seen this.

hmm I will have to look into this. I have always wanted one so maybe I will have a go.

I’m going to be trying it again soon also. I’m trying to teach myself more slide stuff. I’ll be curious to see how it goes for you @redworks!

So you are saying that you are using your old standard non baritone guitar and stringing it up to be a baritone?

Correct. I actually had a lesson today with a great slide player and he does the same thing (strings up standard guitars as baritones) and enlightened me a bit. I’ll report my findings. He doesn’t do setups, but he did say there is more to it than just adjusting the saddles.

Got it. Is there a reason that you would not just use a baritone electric? I am not sure of the advantage here or the reason. I have both and I am wondering if I missed something.

I’d be worried the intonation would be off, but who knows. Maybe it is possible. I’ve seen those small scale basses and I guess those work. You might be able to get the intonation right near the headstock and not worry about the upper frets.

That was definitely the problem that I had when I first tried it. I’m not giving up though. I’m becoming more and more certain that there are several factors (neck relief, nut and saddle height, etc).
