In my quest for a minimal but high quality recording setup I’ve come across the SPL Crimson 3.
It appears to have everything I need, minus 2 preamp inputs:
- 2 mic inputs
- 2 instrument inputs
- 4 line inputs
- Monitor controller with a couple of switchable sources and outputs
- 2 headphone outputs
Anyone have any experience with this or similar units?
I would need another 2 preamps for my recording needs and I’m wondering whether to aim for say, a dedicated preamp to plugin to the line inputs of the crimson, or something with a dedicated digital output to go into the SPDIF input of the crimson.
The plan is to replace a collection of 3-4 outboard units (chiefly an allen and heath zed desk for monitoring/headphones and an ICE16 A/D D/A which has way more I/O than I need!) with a single interface and 1-2 high quality preamp units.
