Song removed

My first song up for bashing. I have 128 songs, but rather than bore you with them, I am submitting one I have been working on as of late. I place an idea/rough sketch in RR. I have now finished it and was wondering how it sounded. I play the guitars and sing (I am 68 years old) . I have to use midi on the drum tracks cuz I’m not that good on my electronic ones:)
I have been writing a lot of sappy ballads and was challenged by some friends to write something way out there. I did. When I was younger, I had many friends that only thought of a girl as a sex object. I thought, what the heck, just go for it. If you hear anything that needs help, please let me know.

I am not sure yet on how to download the song? I think I will just add my soundcloud id? Here are the lyrics…ouch (ps, I am not a sicko) Thanks a bunch

Sincerely

paul

Sex is all you need

I’m goin out I got this ache inside me…This inner animal has to be set free
No time for kissin…Sex is all you need

Everybody at this party’s doing a little shoppin thinkin what they’re gonna do later on
You can read em like a book and you’ll pick that come on look
There’s a sweet thang there I’ll take her home
No time for kissin…Sex is all you need

I just start to walk around find one that I can’t stare down use my pick up line lets get it on

Get on up I wanna see your wild side….Tell me what you really need sweet thing….
No time for kissin…Sex is all you need

Got no use of snugglin –n- holdin hands is troublin…cuz I got much mo better things to do
Not too fussy pickin women…know I’ll find one that’s a given I think it just might as well be you
No time for kissin…Sex is all you need

Don’t try to act like you’re lookin for a boyfriend You’re lookin for the same thing as me
Ya check me out thinkin I might do I got some plans for you too
No time for kissin…Sex is all you need

Sounds great. The drums are the one area where I think it could be improved.

Cool groove you got going on. I do find that at this point, while i like the multiple voices, they are stepping on each other so much that i can’t really hear what is going on. Creating some separation with eq would help.

yes, the drums are my downfall. I hate to rely on drum loops:)

Thanks for the listen and comment

Hi Red Nice to meet you. I put a bunch of harmonies in there one day when I was bored:) I needed someone to sing this that had more of a tougher voice. Mine does not fit that bill. I will go back and try to subtract some of those voices. Nice catch. Yes it sounds cluttered. Thank you

Good to hear you’re still in the game Paul
I wonder if sexual energy and actively making music are connected somehow._ could start a poll for the 60 plus members :joy: Anyway, a brutally honest song. about lust. Good work!

First id like to say cheers to you, 128 songs
I agree with the others, the vocals are stepping on each other at times, i personally like the drums, they are out of control sounding, but its perfect for this tune !!!
great job.

Ha ha Aef I have always said under five and over fifty, we tend to say what is on our mind and not worry what others think. I don’t have any close friend my age. They bore the hell out of me. Tell it like it is I say. I like the thought of an old farts section. All this experience right? Nice to meet you and thanks for the chat

Hi Derek Nice to meet you. Yes, I have many songs and have thoroughly enjoyed this little hobby. I thought the drums were Ok, but wasn’t quite sure? Going to work on a general clean up now. I did want to have it sound a little rowdy tho??

Thanks for stopping by

That is sounding better. I think now that you could balance out the instruments and the vocals because right now i feel like the vocals are sitting too far in front. I think especially parts like that guitar that comes in around 2:20 you could automate that up to the overall song more of a dynamic feel. i think some further time spent on automation (which i dread doing myself by the way, partly because it is such a critical part of getting a song to a. gel , b. have a since of movement) would really push a good song and mix up a few notches.

Ha ha Red I don’t know how to automate. I am not much of a mixer. I shove the guitars left and right, bass and drums and vocals down the middle. I will however, check out studio one and see if I can get a handle on this automation thangy:) Thanks very much for checking this a second time. I have to get off my butt now and get to work:)

Paul

While i find it a bit of a daunting task automation is not that hard to wrap your head around and it can have some really wonderful affect to your mix. I look forward to hearing what you come up with.

Hey, really cool song and I found it really catchy. Simple, but efficient.
Mixing-wise, it sounds really spot on to me since I could get lyrics very easily and that’s a good point when mixing a song.

The only little thing I’m not really keen on is the cymbal (?) that sounds more like some white noise to me than everything else (if it was that)…

Good job nonetheless!

By the way, for the automation in Studio One, I found that tuto, I hope it could help

Hi nc The only thing I don’t do is the drums. ( I used the ones in studio one) I have no idea how to tame that cymbal. This is a very unusual song for a 68 year old to produce and sing, but I know this is how many guys think. ha ha Glad you got a kick out of it and thanks for your comments:)

You’re welcome

Hey feaker,

Nice song. The lyrics, arrangement and tone form a coherent whole, kinky and lively.

I would have edited the vocals on “this inner animal” to align the two vocal parts together. On the drums, I don’t like the sudden change of pattern at 0:22. The vocals are often a little too upfront to my taste. Apart from those small things I think you have a nice little song here!

Gotcha Lopho I am going to try what you suggested. Getting feedback gives me something to dig into. I know there are so many other techniques to get the vocal where you can hear it without taking away for the production, but I am not there yet with my mixing skills:) Right now I just turn up the volume. ha ha
Thanks for taking the time to help:)
