Royalties and Getting Paid

A couple more videos from the TikTok music manager gal, about getting paid in the industry. You may already be familiar with this info, but she gives real world examples I found interesting. And her videos are short and to the point.

How songwriters make $$ as they sleep!

I was somewhat familiar with this situation, but never heard it spelled out this clearly. Industry etiquette.

Do you need to pay friends to play on your songs?

Lots of interesting info. Thanks for the share!

Pretty basic stuff Stan but I guess useful for people who don’t have a grasp of it.

Now: what do you do when half your band decides to sack you and the singer, demands that you both sign a legal agreement that all publishing royalties will be shared equally in the future - even for songs that you wrote - then locks you out of the band’s social media and claims the newly-released album as their own?

Answer: Sue the bastards. Slap them with a ten-grand bill for all the time they have spent in your studio and claim rights to their equipment since the band is effectively a company that has been dissolved.

Then use the experience as inspiration for a whole album’s worth of lyrics.

Was that a personal experience story? :astonished:

So … I take it that “creative differences” would not be an adequate description?

I read somewhere that the Brits used to solve it like this:

Knights

You could say that

Aw man. Really sorry to hear that. I hate to see that happening. :frowning:

It has a satisfactory ending. We ended up with ownership of all master recording rights and exclusive use of the band name.
