All right, anybody curious about my abilities not shown off in the joke mixes, here you go. My serious mix of this song, pretty organic, no master bus compression or limiting. Feedback welcome, this one is for real. Note to admins, St. Anger is still my only entry.

Overall good sounding mix. Good sound of guitars and bass. It seems to me a weak kick (could be more belligerent), especially in the choruses, and a bit sunken (guitar) solo.
But everyone has a different point of view.
Very clean and, yes, organic sounding mix… Almost like a FOH mix. Very cool.
I really like how you used the drum room mics. They didn’t work that well for me as there were some phase issues in there and some things that I didn’t like. That brings me to my next nitpic…
There is a lot of hihat and ride attack in the mix. And I think that’s one of the things I didn’t like about the stereo room track. it’s almost like the hh/ride attack is louder than the rest of the drums. That kind of stuff bugs me a lot… I don’t know if anyone else cares…
Other than that… the vocals could use a little more energy throughout and the drums seem to get weaker at the end rather than stronger…
Very nice in terms of clarity and separation

Interesting take on it. The balances sit nicely together, and everything is extremely well controlled, especially the bass. The drums have quite a natural, roomy sound to them, bordering on “garage-y”, but without any boomy or muddy low end.
The brightness of the guitars comes across quite piercing, and the amount of gain they have results in a slightly “ratty” sound - it combines with the high end of the cymbals to make it a slightly fatiguing listen from beginning to end. The kick has a really “ticky” (almost metal-sounding) high end, which seems a bit at odds with the general vibe of the other mix elements.
One other thing that the brightness and gainy-ness of the guitars does is push the lead vocals “behind” them in the soundstage, so they almost sound like an also-ran.
Strangely enough, although it has no buss comp, to my ears, everything sounds pretty slammed with compression - perhaps there is a fair bit happening at a track level.
Overall, some good sounds happening which are clear and well defined, showing a solid grasp of mix technique. Unfortunately - to my ears, at least - pushing a little beyond the boundaries of good taste due to heavy handed processing in general.
Good mix. I noticed when the electric guitars cut out for that stretch in the start of verse 2 that my ears really appreciated the break. It jumped out at me so it got me thinking you have have pushed those guitars a little too hard in particular in the high mids. That would be my suggestion. Thanks for sharing.
Bashing as I listen: not a fan of the guitar sounds, they sound overly fizzy to me, and the drums sound great apart from the kick, which is very clicky in a distracting way. Good job on the vocals though, although they are a little dwarfed by the guitars unfortunately. Good luck!
How’s this? Sounds a lot more laid back to me. Fixed the kick drum, changed amp plugins, moved the kick up to 100Hz rather than 60. (No comments on the backwards cymbal hit yet, I thought that was super cool!) A lot of the clicking kick was coming from the snare mic, most prevalent in the verses.
Not much compression at all during mixing, not certain what you’re hearing, but I don’t doubt that it’s there. I took some of your suggestions to heart and revised the mix, take another listen.
