Here is a new one I wrote that I wanted to make sound like an older rock and roll or R&B song. I was going for a “Jackie Wilson” high energy vibe, but with a bit of a modern twist with the guitar. I wish I had some sax sounds to fill in the brass, but ohh well. Anyway, thoughts on the mixing, arrangement, etc.
@Chandler you have some really good phrasing! Well done. Playing entirely instrumental on an entire song can really be a challenge and I thought you did a great job of keeping it from sounding too repetitive, but still had a song structure and some hooks throughout.
Keep up the good work!
@holster Thanks. I’ve been working on my arranging and production. I wanted to make something short and sweet. Although it is basically a blues song, I didn’t want it to get too repetitive since the structure is so simple.
Nice arrangement, good interplay between the instruments. The guitar tone is great, it sounds modern against the more traditional instrumental backdrop, making the great playing stand out more.
Everything sounds good, and it’s nice and short, and to the point.
Thanks. That was what I was going for with this. I wanted it to have more of a modern guitar tone, but with a vintage arrangement and modern mixing.
Great job on this @Chandler, you aren’t breaking any new ground here as you say, but the standards for well known material are very high and you have met them quite well I feel.
I personally would probably choose a warmer, less glassy overall sound for a track like this but that’s purely a subjective decision; your mix works fine to my ear.
Can you tell us what horn library you used here?
@ingolee Thanks for the feedback. I used the Power Brass Library from MSoundfactory.
I wish there were some saxaphones in it, but I think it came out alright with just the trumpets and trombones.
The horns sound good, have you done a video on how to use them?
