This is fourth time this year I’ve had to take a D.I. bass and pump it through some sort of sim to reamp. I simply couldn’t get enough information off the D.I. to make a usable track. The last thing I wanna do is start collecting bass amps to reamp, I’m gonna have to go plugin.
So far I’ve used up all my demo licenses from UAD and printed to track. I wouldn’t mind buying a few of those UAD bass sims, but I’ve needed the Eden and GK for Gospel stuff, then Fenders and Ampeg for rock stuff. All of the bundles together are almost $1000…does anyone know of any other company that makes really good spot-on bass amp emulators?
Not an amp sim, but I’ve got the Sonic Anomaly “Bass Professor II” on my bass track in my template and use it probably 90% of the time in one way or another. For the price, you can’t beat it!
I can’t recommend the guys at Kuassa enough. Their Amp Sims are amongst the cheapest around, and they also have demos that you can try out.
I have their Vermillion and Creme amps - two of the best sounding Amp Sims I have. The fact that you can mic them with one / two mics, change the mic types, and move them around is just magical.
Running to players that need specific sounds…like hey, can we go vintage Fender on this track? Or crush it with an Ampeg dude…or I wish I had run this through an Eden cab.
Its really the producers call more than the players. Until recently, I’ve never had tracks sent back because the bass didn’t sound polished enough. At first I was like…how the fuck do you ‘polish’ a bass. I mean it just kind of sits there and rumbles a lot lol. Those things, especially in pop, just don’t pretty up like a vocal. I’ve spent a good amount of time over the last few months (and since I visited that mastering engineer in Charlotte) learning better ways to build and structure the low end image.
That looks really neat! I have a session coming in about 30 min, after that I’ll start cracking open some demos!
Have you demoed any of the other stuff in the amplitude bundle? I can’t complain about the price! Especially not being a bass player and having zero ability to play it myself
I also use the bass amps that are in Amplitube 3 and 4 routinely, along with a saturation plug for grit (and eq of course) and that seems to work pretty well. The sims are quite versatile with lots of tweakability. I’d be surprised if you couldn’t get something to work using those. Good luck!
Yeah! The ones I’ve tried so far (from UAD) have certainly gotten the job done. I’m not a huge fan of these things on guitar, but on bass they seem to go a long way
