Tell me what think
I like the way the harmonies work in the choruses - a really nice, lush spread you have going there. The vocals and drums sound very good.
I think some of the issues with this track might actually be arrangement and playing issues, but there may be some mix things you could do to help it along…
For me, the song has no momentum in the chorus - I think it comes from an overly busy drum pattern. It sounds very stop/start, which is much like what happens in the verse, so there is not the kind of contrast I was anticipating.
Perhaps this would help:
- Tuck the chorus snare in more - it gets very loud in the chorus and de-emphasises the groove as a result
- The distorted guitars need to be bigger - perhaps creating a fake double-track by copying other chorus parts would help. The guitar is also very fizzy on top - taming that would make it easier to listen to
- The bass is all low end, so it’s not driving the mix forward - it just seems to be a general subby-sounding drone. Get some higher harmonics going and get it to fill in the low mids and highs some more so we can hear it as a specific rhythm entity contributing to the groove.
Yeah most of the tracks on Mikes forum have issues its like banging your head on a brick wall with a lot of them as you know . Believe it or not there are loads of guitar tracks in that,Cheers for the feedback Andrew .
