Mix after contest (Manic Mix-Off)

Hello everybody! This is my first post here.
I’m late saw the contest and didn’t have time to make the mix. But I made the mix.
All drums are original. All electric guitar were reamped by my tube guitar amp, then amp sim. I haven’t found a place for the acoustic guitars. Maybe one of them in the verses.
I’m waiting for your critique.
Thanks!

Welcome to the gang @otcovsky!! It’s great to have you here! I love that you jumped right in like this. I’ll check out the mix this evening! Also, we’ll be hosting a number of contests as we’re growing, so you only missed the first one

Feel free to “bash” some of the other mixes though. It’s a great learning tool for everyone involved!

Again, welcome!!!

Hello there otcovsky and welcome to the forum
You did a great job on the mix, never mind it didn’t make it to the deadline, the important thing here is to learn from each other and have fun in the process, so thanx for sharing!
Imaging and separation of individual instruments are very good. I love the guitar sound, it is clear and articulate, although I would prefer some more gain from the amp, to add more weight to them. They are a bit dry for my taste, but work very well in the context of the mix. Drums have a nice overall balance, I just find the hi hats distracting during the verses (especially 1:39), if I remember correctly there was a very nasty bleed in the snare mic that produced those clicks, and dynamically they could have been tamed a bit with a compressor with a faster attack. In my opinion the vocals could have been just a bit louder overall, (nothing drastic, 1dB could have done it). You should watch out more for sibilance, some esses and sh sounds are very prominent, and that goes from the fact that you treated your vocals (and the overall mix) more on the bright side, which works very well in this case - your mix is open and airy, with nice highs without being harsh, just those pesky esses tend to get in the way. Try cutting them up and moving them to a separate track, that way any enhancements you do on the vocal track will not effect the esses. Also, the vocal track could really benefit from those breaths being removed completely, they are really nasty and distracting. A slight more compression on the lower end of the bass guitar with a multiband compressor would tighten up the dynamics down there and make things a bit smoother.
Thats it from me, apart from a few technical aspects, and my own very subjective personal preferences, you did an amazing job
Keep up the great work,

Zsolt

Thanks all!
About guitars: I imagine this song as a light and airy. Hard guitars are misplaced here.
About drums: I was a little reduced clicks on snare mic using a multi-band compressor, but was unable to completely get rid of.
About vocal: It’s my fault. I fixed this.
About bass: I think that compression of the lower end is not necessary. Let the bass will be more alive.
