Is Thunderbolt forward compatible? And which version do I have?

I’m currently using my MacBook live to send 8 channels out of an interface, then into a DI, then into the splitter snake that feeds front of house and the monitor engineer. I want to ditch all of it and switch to a Dante virtual sound card.

Our Midas console has a Dante Card option, but my MacBook doesn’t have a cat 5 port. I see there are Thunderbolt to Cat5 adapters, but I’m not sure which one I need because I don’t know how to check if my ports are Thunderbolt 1, 2, or 3.

As far as I can tell, a late 2013 MacBook Retina would have two Thunderbolt 2 connectors, each giving you up to 20Gb/s throughput. I think the standard Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter should be ok - it will support Gigabit connections.
