How can I improve this metal song/mix?

Hi all,

Going back to more traditional metal this time. Warning: there are elements of extreme metal that you might find repulsive.

I won’t say much more, very keen to hear your honest opinion on this piece.

Cheers,

didnt find any repulsive elements?
I was expecting lyrics haha

I like the piece in general. Bass, kick, guitars all seem to be sitting right. It is great work!!

From a traditional metal sense, cymbals maybe over-gated/or over saturated. Could let them breathe a bit more imo.
Take a listen to this track. Seems similar to your track. Check out the cymbals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoJf53JFA1c

I like this as far as playing, sounds and mix except for the drums. I know you want something driving and repetitive but it’s too drum machiney for my taste. I think you can get the same effect with better sound and more humanistic playing even without a live drummer.

It really needs another element (hook) to put this across I think. Lacking a vocal (which could be anything, however weird) you could have all manner of guitar, synth or orchestral parts that give us that extra appeal.

Good work!

I’m certainly not an expert on the genre, but the playing is great. It’s very tight, well mixed and snarly where it needs to be.
I would agree with ingolee that the drum track could be simplified in a couple of sections to then come back full tilt and match the articulation of the guitar line, maybe pulling back to half time for two measures before syncing back up with the guitar. This might add some drama and highlight the amazing fast unison lines when they kick back in. There’s also room on top for some symphonic synth lines to create a complimentary melody above the controlled chaos below, if that makes sense.
Great precision, nice guitar tones, and a very ambitious recording. Nice job.
