First mix ever :) Bash it to the ground, FINAL update

Good attempt for a first mix.

You’ve overdone the 500Hz cut a bit, but the main problem is that the bass guitar (and to a degree your kick) is 10db too high in the mix.

Did you use a reference track? If not, I suggest you import one into the DAW and do an A/B check.

Thanks mate  I will try this !

The 500Hz cut on the bass you mean ?

10db to high ? that much ?

No, I mean in general, although it seems that it’s mainly guitars in that area.

Well, it might be 8db, but as you say, it’s definitely a lot. It’s a combination of bass and kick, but I think it’s mainly bass, so basically you’re looking to attenuate the bass and kick so that the entire 30Hz - 80Hz q is brought down by by about 8db to 10db. You might do this by EQ, or by simply bringing the individual faders down, or by a combination.

If you do import a reference track into the DAW, make sure it bypasses the two-bus so that it doesn’t get any of your two-bus processing. Then you can do a direct A/B comparison.

BTW You appear to have mastered at -1db instead of 0db, did you know?

Hmm, then I guess its probably in the bass, cause the guitars shold still have plenty of energy there. I didn’t cut them that hard there. The bass on the other hand

Yeah, I listened again just now on my speakers this time, and the kick and bass are a bit to high. I’m gonna try faders first cause those are the one’s I pulled up a bit

I haven’t put any real time in learning to master, as I’m just started with mixing  But it is true, I tryed staying a little bit underneath the 0db. My max peak should be at around 0.3db on this one if I remember correctly.
I basically just used my compressor a few times (fabfilter C). Put it on hard knee, and ratio 100, then redused just a little db of peaks. I figured it would give me roughfly then same effect a brickwall does. Release was set around 75 or something to avoid distortion a bit, and I used several (3) compressors to share the load a bit. Amaturistic maybe, but I’m not going to dig into mastering much further for the moment.
