First band to mix beside my own!

Need some fresh ears with this.
Not finished yet, but am I on the right track?
Anything jumping out?
Mostly insecure about the guitars & snare.

Bash away!

Nice! Love the dudeā€™s voice! Mix sounds nicely balanced frequency-wise - good spread between high and low end.

Not really - It sounds very good to meā€¦ I like the nice fat low endā€¦

Being picky, the front-to-back depth of the mix could be a little better. To me it sounds like the guitars and vocals are all up front, and the drums are sort of ā€œbehindā€ everything else in two distinct ā€œlayersā€. Iā€™d prefer to hear things gradually recede ā€œbehindā€ the vocals to give a greater sense of dimension.

The lead guitar sounds like it could use more ambience and perhaps less ā€œbuzziness and sizzleā€ in the top end - itā€™s a little over-gained for my taste. I think some judicious eq and some delay and ambience might seat it more comfortably in the mix. If itā€™s an amp sim, I would suggest dialling back the gain.

It sounds like the snare has a LOT of room sound on it - it sounds great, but itā€™s too ā€œfull onā€ all the time for me. Donā€™t show all your cards at onceā€¦ Iā€™d suggest dialling back the room sound for the verses, then cranking it up for the choruses to enhance the excitement.

Nice work - I really enjoyed the track! :+1::beerbanger:

Youā€™ve got a big wide open clean, dynamic sounding mix, and then thereā€™s this uninvited guest in the name of the ā€˜snare drumā€™, that smacks you right in the face from bar #1, and when the track finally opens up into a big beautiful rock number, takes a back seat and just feels weak. Itā€™s hard to comment further without knowing your approach, but the snare feels overcooked (eq?), and as a consequence, lacks clarity and presence in the sections that matter most.
Feels like a much more rounded approach to the snare tone would be more appropriate for this number, but hey, thatā€™s only my shitty opinion.

Great advice guys. Thx a lot.
Iā€™ll get on it and get back to you.

like the dark sounding nice song !!!

Really cool rock song, vocals are great, gtrs hyper nice.
Some ideas i had :
more sub for the kick, a db more of the bass gtr, and i must admit i dislike the snare sound.
If you cannot change it, duplicate the top snare track, one for the low energy need between 180/200 hz, low pass filter at 600, slow attack compression, medium release, 6/7 db of attenuation. The second track with an attenuation between 700, medium attack, short release.
Less 1k on the verb, and more dry snare in the mix.
Tell me if it helpsā€¦, ideas/opinions only there !

Is that an improvement? On the snare mostly.
Unfortunately I have very little experience with real drums mixing. I usually use Superior Drummer for all my stuff.

@Moa22
I did this revision before your post but Iā€™ll try your ideas on the next song of that band.
Thx a lot my friend!

Sounds really good but I agree with the snare ,for me it sounds a bit weak.
It sort of sounds like it has too much attack from a comp .

Definitely an improvementā€¦The snare sits much more comfortably in the mix now. Getting picky, itā€™s a little lacking in punch and weight. Iā€™d prefer less snare bottom sound. Perhaps try slowing down the attack of the snare compressor would allow a little more transient to come through. Pushing the 150-200hz area on the snare would give a little more weight too.

Good going so far!

Yep, that snare sounds a lot more tame for this style of track and seems to sit in the mix more harmoniously , nice fix.
