Do you know what cuss words look like?

I’m sure some of you do! Mixing engineer Leslie Brathwaite (Cardi B’s grammy winning “Invasion of Privacy”) did an interview for The Verge and says he does.

" Actually, last night, I was mixing some records, and I had to do some clean versions. I can go through and clean them up without having to scroll through the entire song. I know what the waveforms of certain curse words look like. It’s just from doing it so much. I have a 99 percent margin when it comes to being right when spotting curse words."

Here’s the interview, he also mentions plugins he likes.

How about an audio sample of “Merry Christmas”? :slightly_smiling_face:

Something about that pic has me expecting to see the Grinch in that wave form.

He says something about “turning the knobs until it sounds good” and not being obsessed with the technical details. And mixing relatively quickly to stay focused. A common theme with well-known mixers, but a good reminder just the same.

I used to consider this a handy thing to do, now I think it’s vital.
