I have this old song (about five computers ago and cakewalk one) that I just can’t find. At the time is was not one of my favorites and now that I am older it is. I have this droning snare that really is annoying. I tried to recreate the song, but it just didn’t have the feel of the original. When I threw away the computer I suspected had the song out, I pulled out what I thought was the hard drive. It was the CD drive instead. ha ha I was just wondering if anyone has tried EQing a snare out? Really a sappy song, but my granddaughters like it.
I don’t find it all that annoying Paul. It’s the prominent drum sound in there, reduce that and you may not have much rhythm. You could try an EQ notch in the snare beef frequency at 200Hz or so (do a notch boost sweep to find the exact one, then flip the notch to a cut right there), or a higher frequency if it’s the snare twack that bugs you (but that might cut into the vocals since you have a high voice). The snare has a pretty wide range of sound so you’d be lucky to hit on a notch cut that would make a significant difference, but you can try it just to say you did.
Hi Stan I have a mastering option that is in studio one that I have only explored once before. It has a thangy that show the whole song and where the levels are. I am going to be brave and move this song in there and mess a bit. I’m glad the drum didn’t bother you. It just got to me for some reason. Thanks bud
Paul
This song sounds like Graham Nash to me Paul, not my thing really but a lot of people would like it I’m sure.
The snare doesn’t bother me. Remastering is a good option, I’d EQ the bass first myself, then go from there.
Hi I wish I had all the tracks. I throw so much stuff away. It’s a sickness. I worry about the hard drive capacity to a fault. I could try EQing the track itself ??? Thanks for listing
Paul
Oh, by all means make a copy of the song and plug it in your gizmo and see what you can do. It’s possible to shift the whole tone of the song with presets sometimes, though that may not be what you’re looking for. Still, it can give you a sense of possibilities.
You can certain try EQ and see what happens. You can also try a trick that some use to cut the vocals from a song, though you may not want that either. I’m sure it’s documented out there, as this isn’t necessarily all the steps, but basically: 1) you take two copies of the song in a DAW, 2) one copy is stereo spread full as usual - the other copy has both pan pots on the stereo track set to center, 3) you flip the phase on the center track and much of the center content disappears. You may be able to EQ that copy too in order to reduce some snare but not eliminate the vocals. Unfortunately, that may introduce some phase issues if you EQ the center copy … but you’re just playing with this anyway so why not see what happens.
I came across this plugin that claims it can attenuate drums in mixed music. Haven’t tried it, read about it in “Electronic Musician”, they say it can change but not eliminate a drum sound.
Ingo dude Wow, that was very impressive. Quite expensive tho??? I just wonder tho if I could mess with other songs using it? I never have added any plugins to my studio one except EZdrummer (and that gave me fits) I am going to see if they have a trial package?? thanks, I would not of thought this would be possible?
sincerely
Paul
Yeah I would be careful with this thing for the money especially. But it does have a demo so it can’t hurt to try it right?
