I have lots of students at school who I’m currently teaching guitar and bass, and I realized there are these nuggets of wisdom I’m always telling them. For example to fix their fretting hand, I always ask them to imagine holding a tennis ball in that hand to get the proper shape around a fretboard. I thought in this thread it might be nice to collect some nuggets of wisdom from the pros as well as the amateurs. Not looking for huge posts or massive explanation, but really small nuggets of wisdom that will help all of us

So I will lead by example!
My nugget is for recording guitar, especially rock and pop guitar. You need far less overdrive / distortion to make a guitar sound full of heavy in a mix. Layering two or three slightly overdriven guitars can sound HUGE if done right, and leaves a lot of space for other instruments

I found this to be true in live situations too, but this is absolutely correct! Great thread!
Listen to the person who is tracking and/or mixing you if they offer advice or ask for a slight change. They’re doing it for a legit reason, not to bruise your ego.
