Behringer U-Phoria

Need a USB interfaces with at least four inputs… looked at the Focusrite ones, which aren’t cheap.
Then had a brainwave and googled “usb interface four inputs” and found this one…

Will need to get one of them…

I have one. Actually, I have the 1820 version

The Good:
It works. I rarely have technical issues with it.
The I/O is what it claims to be.
Get a ton of features for the money

The bad:
My only complaint is that the drivers are as bare boned as you could possibly expect them to be. For example (and this drives me insane) if you are on windows, you can’t tell windows to make output 3/4 your main windows device. only output channels 1/2 will work from windows.

Same goes with inputs. You can’t tell windows that mic input 4 is your main mic intput. Windows will see mic 1 and that’s it.

From your DAW using asio drivers, everything works as expected. You can route anything to anywhere with your DAW. But there is absolutely no internal routing that can be done outside the DAW. This may not be an issue for you. For me it definitely is.

Other than that, I’m happy with it. It’s been reliable for a couple of years now. I wouldn’t use it to test and measure equipment, but I’m more than happy to use it for tracking/mixing/playback.

Cool, thanks…
I would only use it for recording with Cubase, so no probs for me.
Just wanting to be able to hook up more than two microphones to my mobile recording rig.
And four will do fine for now…

How strange! I just picked up one of these a few weeks ago after seeing it on a second hand site. I had a firewire interface from Focusrite, and I had to spend a good few minutes to get it to work on my old MacBook Pro. I also had to put the mic input level to max just to get a sound level that was decent.

On my MacBook, the U-Phoria has actually changed my life. I can sit and record my voice in a matter of seconds now. No drivers to deal with, and routing from Logic seems to be rock solid. It might be psychological, but I find the pre-amp in this interface wonderful - I’m loving what it does with my Rode over what the Focusrite used to do.
