Bash Heartbeat

Let me know if the kick gets lost or breaks anything…

I think kick is okay. I wish I could do such kick. I find snare too loud and little boxy. Good sounding vocals though.

Thanks, Buddy…
Which snare? The sample in the verse or the “live” one in the chorus?

Both of them, but the sample is even more prominent than the live one. It just sticks out for me. Try referencing some songs in similar genre.

I wish I could comment on the low end, but alas, not in the office!

Agree about the snare, it’s a bit loud and perhaps too bright too - wouldn’t like so say for sure until it was re balanced. The live snare is a much better volume but in contrast to the sample it feels quite dull - it’s all relative though! I like the vocal performance a lot, possibly for the genre I’d mess around with a little more compression to really pin it to the front - I think particularly the brightness in the vocals likes to be pinned to the front of this sort of music?

In fact, probably the whole track in general I’d want a bit brighter, deeper and more in your face to generate and sustain a sense of excitement. Then I’d be dancing in my chair! It’s a really good song.

I’m actually cool with the snares at this point. And if I were to reference similar tunes in the genre, it would be more about what NOT to do…
I’m actually digging the way the sample snare is poking out and sucking back into the track. But I agree that it may poke out a little too far. Maybe I’ll play with it some more or use one of my own samples…
Thanks for the follow up

Oh… that I can do… :joy: This is a “less-slammed” version of the mix. Trying to see if the tune and the kick still carry if I let the organic stuff like the guitars/vox breathe.
Although I like the action I’m getting with the verse snare, maybe it needs to back down and get in line with the live snare… and stay behind the LV
Thanks for your input

Hi Rich - late to the party here:

The kick is definitely there - perhaps a bit more sub bass would be appropriate for this genre.

I’m finding the contrast between the programmed and acoustic drums a little jarring.

If it was me, I’d probably lo-fi the programmed drums and distress them a bit, perhaps even doing some bit-crushing, and maybe brighten up the transients on the acoustic kit some.

The verse / chorus expectation is generally warmer verses, brighter choruses, so hearing it the opposite way around tends to sound a little upside down to me.

Cool track!
