Anyone run across any recently (within the last 2 years) plugins that you’ve been blown away by?
I’ve really appreciated the last few additions to the Slate Everything bundle. Just installed the new UAD releases yesterday, but haven’t had a chance to demo them yet.
Waves came out with a piano plugin recently. Pass on this one unfortunately, though I really liked their Rhodes and Wurlitzer plugins. If I needed a piano, the Waves would do nicely, but with XLN, NI, Synthogy, and Vienna piano libraries currently installed, the Waves piano wouldn’t have added a whole lot to my current collection.
I’m anxious to try @bozmillar’s Big Beautiful Door plugin! I’m thinking it’s going to be one of those plugins that you can use for a lot more than it’s even designed for. People will figuring out “tricks” with it for some time for sure.
I just picked up the acousticsamples Acoustic Guitar pack the other day, and I’m quite impressed with it. There are times where I just need to add a simple generic acoustic guitar to something, and it’s way easier to use MIDI than to mic up a guitar unless the performance requires a real guitar.
@bozmillar So is that plugin supposed to be a response in jest to Trump’s claim that on the border wall that “there will be a big beautiful door for people to come in”? I think Steven Slate is mostly hype. He’s a fantastic business man, but I can tell the difference between his plugins and the real thing in all the blind listening tests. He seems like a used car salesmen, Boz seems honest, and his plug-ins sound better. I’m also anxious to try the Big Beautiful Border Wall err…door. Also, couldn’t recommend Valhalla enough. Their reverb is fantastic, and their Space Modulator has come in handy in so many cases, I’ve lost count.
Thats fair. But I’d think the important thing would be how well the stuff works on your projects and in the context of your mixing preferences. This seems like it would ultimately win out over something being super accurate or being an extreme spot-on clone. I mean…I’m aware his 1176 plugs don’t sound or act anything like a real 1176. But I use them anyway because whatever they’re doing seems to work good on some things.
