Rock - To Darkness

Hi @ProudMusicStudios,

I think the song is good. The instruments sounds are good too.

As someone noticed, one of my biggest concern is the bass guitar… Well, it’s missing during the first part of the song and then it needs some EQ adjustment.

I missing something that glue everything together. I don’t why I have this feeling but maybe I would try to add a reverb on the mix or a different type of reverb on the mix. This is mainly taste so it doesn’t mean my advice is good to take.

It reminds me of a band I’ve produced some time ago when I owned a small record company…listen to Three trees following

Cheers!

Hi @Cirrus,

Thank you for your feedback!! I really appreciate it.

I finished working on a new version of the mix. It “fixes” some issues you and other fellow musicians/producers/mixers pointed at, I will upload it today and would be very thankfull if you give it a listen.

Hi @Kakeux,

Thanks!

I think the main problem is the hard panning of the guitars. It is difficult to understand the mix

The thing with the bass is that: there is no bass! It apperas only for a few seconds after the 2:24 mark. Yesm it is a starnge arrangement, but I like it for this song. I think that you will like the new version more. Is more consistent and easy to understand.

Hello!

I have a new version of the mix. Thank you all for your feedback! Hope you think the new version is better.
I changed some panning decisions I made, tweaked the drums, the guitars EQ and added some extra arrangements. Some of you pointed out that an intro would be nice. I tried, but it didn’t give the effect I wanted to have for this song (wanted something immediate like ‘open my eyes’). There is no bass up to 2:14. It is strange, but I like it

If you think there is something critical about this mix then I can tweak it a bit more. Otherwise I will leave alone (otherwise it will never be done)

Here it is:

Thank you @Coquet-Shack @holster @Arber87 @redworks @cptfiasco @feaker @CosmicSea @rick78 @Cirrus @Kakeux. Yes, I am tagging you to make you listen to it again!

Hi again:) Glad you are persistent to nail this. I have listened to this several times this morning and have absolutely have fell in love with it. It is haunting. Your voice is spot on and truly believable. I don’t want to drive you crazy here, but I still hear something off. I am 68 years old and my ears are not that good anymore. I hear something a 9 seconds and again at 19 seconds. I don’t know if you are sliding into a note of if an instrument is slightly flat. At first I thought it was your voice? It is not. I might be way off, and the very fact no one else has mentioned it, that might be true. I wish now I don’t hear it. ha ha Good luck anyway, you have a dandy here

Sincerely

Paul

Hi @feaker!

I love that you fell in love with it! I heard the noises you mention. It is the frets of the guitar when changing chords (so yes, sliding into a note). I noticed them in other parts and kind of liked the “rawness” it gives to the track. If you find it annoying I do not have a problem in removing them though

Thanks again for your feedback!

Ha ha Yes, I also thought the same thing on the other side of the fence thinking it makes it sound like the real deal as far as actually playing the guitar:)

sincerely

Paul

Yep that is better. I am listening with ear buds right now so i may be missing something. I can tell to that this mix is translating well to the ear buds.

Sounds very good on big cans also. I’m enjoying the doubled background vox!
