I love this.
I mentioned above that I had commissioned a dude on Fiverr to lay down some bass guitar for me, and his track came in last night.
I think he did a really good job. better than I could have achieved anyway, and it seems to fill out the bottom end with a nice human touch now, as opposed to a robotic synth.
Stoked.
New bass mix minus guitars:
Wow that is wildly crazy playin. like to see a video of him playing that. Big time boost to your track. congrats
The bass player sounds good here @terryhesticles , very professional and it fits with the synth parts you have. The snare seems to fit better now to my ear at least. Looking forward to the next installment!
It does sound good. I’m curious, since I did try to do a bass track on this (but was quite rusty) what bass this guy used and what his background is. Did he use a 5-string? I’ve never played one, except maybe in Guitar Center.
The bass riffing at 3:03 and after is really cool.
Hey there Stan, yep apparently he used a Music Man Stingray 5 string bass.
There’s a short rundown on his Fiverr page (which i’ll include) but in a nutshell he’s a musician living in Ukraine who’s been working professionally for about 10 years.
He only had one other review through the site, so obviously isn’t getting too much work through that particular channel, but I listened to his demo reel and knew straight away he’d be able to pull it off, and the best part is he only charged about $60 AU to compose and record the entire thing.
I might have picked one up at a mates and noodled for 5 minutes, but yeah, I’m about the same.
I don’t get a lot of joy at having to record my own bass tracks so to throw 60 bucks at a dude who has the instrument and the ability is a no-brainer really
That’s impressive.
I’ll try to not hold that against him. He must be lucky, at his age, the SBU didn’t already recruit him for the UAF.
I’m really pissed I’m not at that level of musical competency. I’m mainly a guitarist, but have played bass in bands before. I can do this, when I’m up to par. Unfortunately, I’ve let it lapse in recent years.
Very cool. The bassist definitely approximated a Korn vibe in parts. As I mentioned before, it would be really cool on the final to have the rhythm guitar drop out of some parts of the verses (also a very Korn move).
I also rock a music man stingray (4 string HH) and I heard it in the tone right away. Awesome playing! And thanks for sharing!
Nah, I wouldn’t hold it against him either. It’s hardly fair to blame the peoples of a nation for the actions of their governments and their banking paymasters.
As we continue to see throughout history, the bankers and by proxy governments start the wars, and we the people are the ones who end up making the ultimate sacrifice on the geopolitical chessboard.
You’ve got to be doing it in order to stay on top of your game for sure. Having the right tools for the job helps too. Hence the reason I outsourced.
I actually sent Brad the vocalist the new bass mix over the weekend, and dropped the guitars and synth out of the 1st verse, and he was digging it, so yeah man, I definitely took your feedback onboard.
Vocal melodies and lyrics are written and he’s tracking this week, so pretty stoked to see what he comes up with.
That’s rad!
This is true. I’m sure that many people in that war zone would just like to get on with their lives, and not support or be part of the warmongers.
Indeed.
The added bass definitely helps to fill things out and counteracts some of the fizz in the guitars. I generally like stuff that combines heavy and synth stuff… so this is very cool. A vocal should make things very interesting indeed!
Hey thanks for the feedback mate. I’ve been pretty excited to see where Brad was going to go with these vocals, so much so that I’m going to pull a real rookie move and post a snippet of the unprocessed vocal reference he sent me.
We’re still working out some final touches with a few vocal sections but I’m blown away by where it’s at so far.
Cheers.
Wow, man does that kick ass. Love the constant highs and lows in the production. The lyrics keep you wanting to hear more. Very seldom does an aggressive song like this hit in the plus column for me but this one is really killer. I think you really got something here Terry. congrats to yawl
\m/, Oh Yeah ,\m/ Looking forward to hearing more!
among some modern heavy metal-ish type comebacks, Pendulum is a good one that uses synthesized basslines. You could reference some of their tracks. Though they do use bass guitars but in a creative way. Though not a direct reference to your track but there are elements similar to yours in this
I dont particularly miss the bass guitar but you may want a narrower sound profile. It is lacking a bit of cohesion to sit at par with some modern metal tracks. But will need to wait to see how the vocals fit in. Great work!
edit: just heard the one with the vocals added. this could be a great production in progress. Looking forward to hearing the mixed in vocals
Hey cheers Paul, I appreciate it mate. I did ask Brad when we first started talking about vocals is that if he could stay away from the Cookie Monster growl, and keep things more melodic, so it’s probably a bit more accessible from that standpoint. I think with the wrong vocal style and delivery it could be quite off putting for a lot of people.
Thanks man.
\m/ hell yeah!
Actually I’ve been quite a big fan of Pendulum for many years now, and not that I would ever consider my writing style even close to theirs, it wouldn’t surprise me if there were some elements of similarity.
A little Pendulum-related side note, Perry actually played the outro guitar on my track ‘Dark Matter’, which is a cool little Easter egg not many people know about.
Thanks Michelle, yeah I’m pretty excited to take everyone’s suggestions on board and start trying to turn this into a finished article now that vocals are almost done.
Cheers.

I was really anticipating a vocal on this, so I had to realize it was kind of raw (unprocessed), it took some adjustment, but the parts do seem really cool and relevant. There’s a bit of a “Tool” and/or “Godsmack” vibe to the vocal element. With mixing and processing I’m sure it will turn out fantastic!
A very Prodigy/Orgy vibe on them I think (“Firestarter”/“Opticon”). A bit too synth-pop/emo-metal vibe on them for me, but pretty close to some of those songs I liked.
That’s a cool reveal. I’ll have to listen back to ‘Dark Matter’ to hear that.
Sounding really great, even in it’s raw form - looking forward to the finished product!
Finally managed to get most of the vocal editing done and put together a rough vocal mix.
Got a little ways to go yet, but I might have to sit on it for a couple of days and come back with a fresh set of ears.
Would be interested to know if there’s anything terrible poking out that could do with some attention.
More than likely lots, considering I didn’t even use a reference while mixing, so it could just be a big pile of crap that I thought sounded okay within my little mixing bubble.
Created a bit of artwork as well which adds a nice visual to the overall theme.
And yeah I stole that intro, hehe sue me.
Cheers.
Cheap goods
Cheap food
Cheap cars
Cheap sex
Cheap work
Cheap lives
Pay till you got em slaving away
Half their lives to sell
This race to the bottom paves
A one way path to hell
This world you’ve made is fake
To justify mistakes
Defined by what you take
Until you’ve been erased
Scratching at the surface
Forgetting what’s inside
Can’t seem to find a purpose
Can we call this life
Cheap goods
Cheap food
Cheap cars
Cheap sex
Cheap work
Cheap lives
Cheap pills
Cheap bills
Cheap guns
Cheap drugs
Cheap work
Cheap time
Pop up a sweat shop
Fueled by the crack rocks
And call it progress
Save all the profit
For those at the top and
Remove any resistance
This world you’ve made is fake
To justify mistakes
Defined by what you take
Until you’ve been erased
You better submit to who’s in charge
Or let your family starve
Lose your hand making a shoe
It takes one day to replace you
It takes one day to erase you
Shining city on a hill
Glistening as they prep for the kill
Take it a bit more
She can take it like a whore
Nature’s a bit sore
We’re getting what we came here for
They care not who makes laws
Fake money they print to rule them all
They care not who makes laws
Fake money they print controls them all
They care not who makes laws
Fake money they print to rule them all
