Yes, that’s what I meant by internal vs. external. Internal being a frustration with self, external being a frustration with other. Or both. Considering the “mirror” effect, sometimes what we see in others that bugs us turns out to be something we don’t care for about ourselves. Otherwise we perhaps wouldn’t even notice it. But then there’s the “reporter” or journalist viewpoint, objectively seeing a situation dispassionately from a distance, and finding it interesting or fascinating. And writing about it.
The song does seem to be framed in “2nd person”, speaking about someone else. That can also be used as a literary device though, as in the phrase “I have a friend who is struggling with …”
And yes, I’m probably way overthinking it.
