Deconstructed #1

I finally got a chance to listen to this. Nicely done Patrick. Sorry, I don’t have the same negative reaction everyone else seems to have to this song. It came out during some very formative years for me - junior high school. And Chicago was BIG back then. I’m still pretty sick to death of everything Chicago, mind you, but it was really interesting to see this one broken down as you did. I would never have listened to it in this way otherwise, or probably ever gone out of my way to listen to it again.

Some good insights too! :+1:

I guess I’ve always been kind of a sap. This is the one I really liked though…

Like it or hate it (the song), it’s yet another example of how there is clearly a lot more dedication to song crafting in earlier generations than in modern music. Not to say that doesn’t exist now, but it is far less common in my opinion. Modern music feels much more “copy and paste” to me, mostly because, it is. Lol

That’s what I’m also noticing. As mentioned earlier, I have been listening to a 70s-80s greatest hits FM station and have been really impressed with the complexity and musical layering of the songs from that era. While the lyrics can be schmaltzy at times, the song composition and musicianship is very high.
