When I heard of the mix contest, I immediately signed up to the site. That was my way in. I’ve stayed because of the forum and some great posts. But I can see there’s a divide in the kind of users here. I see that there are active engineers here, those who’s day job actually involves working with audio. Then there’s the kind like me, who work a day job and get into mixing and engineering as a side gig.
On a personal note, I don’t really engage that much in the non musical posts on the forum. Its not why I joined. I love the links to tutorials and interviews - and the links to performances. I think I come to this site for inspiration and advice.
If this site could appeal to both sides of this spectrum, I think you could achieve something great. On a selfish note, I’d love to see way more beginner stuff, as I still struggle with basic concepts.
I would very much like to have regular mixing competitions. For me, prizes are almost irrelevant to participating in a mixing contest. I would just love to see how my mix would compare to other peoples’ mixes.
