Ah but Stan, though I can share in your pain and your opinion, you're missing the obvious my friend.
You and I look at it from a musicians point of view. Average listeners don't always listen as we do. Some are intense listeners that may get deeper than we do, but the majority will not.
Music is and always will be "the language of expression" and what that means to people, will always be different. Some people like a beat, like to dance and like to.sing easy anthem type songs that are easy to participate in. We have to accept that as much as the jazz guy that may sound out of key to my diatonic ears due to the tension points that music brings to light.
Or the people that dig rap because of the beat and the crafty poetry going on behind it. Other like metal or music with guitar solos and people that don't like all that stuff will wonder why.
Music, recording, sounds, songs, techniques....it's all so subjective, it's also the reason it all works and there's something for everyone.
I come.from the time where your name of your band reflected who and what you were about. Today names are as bad as some lyrics with not making any sense. But....in my old way of thinking, I'd miss the two obvious things. One it doesn't matter as much to others and two, to some, music and everything about it is art.
We've replaced *greatness" with the word "unique" in a lot of areas now. I think some.of it truly is sad and we've accepted so pretty sorry acts. But, to the rest of the world buying their albums, they like the stuff....and so be it.
Whether it comes from the heart, is something experienced, something that makes you move, makes you sing, makes you want to become a producer or engineer, I say "success" because that's what it's all about. Entertainment is just that, ya know?
If you think about it even more, having all the options and the different likes and dislikes gives you a broader spectrum to work with. Heck bro, we got people putting out music today that can't even play an instrument making serious coin.
I used to be mad about that...but you know what? Now I say good on them for figuring out the short way to succeed while dopes like me wasted 35+ years playing and writing to hone our craft. They took the jet to "work smarter not harder" and guys like me are still walking. Lol! Whatever works for a person I always say.
