As the title asks… do any of you still have the PDF for the Killer Home Recording setup guide that was free on RR?

Since it was free on there, I wouldn’t mind us hosting that on here to help some of the beginners. I suspect there’ll be some updates that may need to be done on it, but I’d be curious to check it out anyway. Thanks!!

#2

I’ll look for it tonight. It’s two laptops ago.

#3

I sure appreciate it! Same for me. I had the whole series, but that was 2 or 3 computers ago and they’re long gone.

Thanks for checking!!

#4

Yep I’ve still got it, just checked on old laptop, have the pdf for setting up and the KHR stuff…
just dashing out and about right now but will copy it over

#5

I have it and I sent it to your email bryan

#6

You guys all rock!!

#7

I think what I’d like to do is have more of an online version of it. Maybe a condensed version, and the PDF can be downloaded if they want the full version. Brandon will still get the credit though :+1:

Anyone that would like to help make the online version can message me!

#8

Wow, great idea!!
Some updates are required, indeed

#9

Since it’s not for sale anymore we could post it here in the download section?

What could go wrong?

#10

Well, it’s just that I see both sides of this and I think he probably wouldn’t even mind, but I’d really rather hear that from him directly. I did try to reach out again to him and hopefully I can get an answer to that part soon. In the meantime, the setup guide was offered for free to begin with and he’d be receiving credit for it, so I feel a lot more at ease with that idea. It’s a start anyway

#11

I found mine finally, but it sounds like you’re all set. Did Brandon copyright it? It was really generic enough that he could still sell it if he wanted to.

#12

I would think that if you don’t realy bother to get your selling links in check, you’d probably don’t mind people just sharing :stuck_out_tongue:

If it where me, I would make sure the links where all still in place. Who knows, even if your interest is moved on, you can still make a buck on it. He spend so much time making it, I find it kinda weird to just abandon it sort of

#13

I think you should take a long-hard look at the law of copyright. That’s why.

#14

Just following up on this thread. If any of you would like to help freshen up the KHR setup guide with me, just let me know on here or message me!

And you can help as much or as little as you have time or energy for
Thanks again everyone!!

#15

What’s the process and what’s the end goal? This has the potential to be really good or a really big mess depending on how you go about doing it.

I think it’s best to cut the connection with KHR and just start over. KHR was great, but it’s fundamentally dated in it’s implementation. A PDF is a terrible way to distribute information, especially when that information could and should change over time.

I think it’s perfectly fine to get a lot of ideas from KHR. It was full of a lot of good stuff, but trying to preserve the legacy of KHR when the original author has no interest in doing anything with it is just tying your hands behind your back. To add to that, it was for sale for a while, and some people paid for it and didn’t receive anything. That’s not a brand you want to build off of.

#16

So, all of the knowledge with less Nazi and Communist references ? :grinning:

#17

I was thinking more.

#18

Here is the index from Brandon’s Setting Up guide to give a better idea of what’s involved… There is some useful stuff in there for sure, but are there people who would want to access it? Is it still relevant? I’m just asking really as devil’s advocate… Also, many of the issues are highly subjective. Brandon could carry that off with his own unique flair… I dread to think of the debate some topics could bring up if we were to discuss changing things… just saying… :grimacing:

I’m happy to help if needed…

Excuse the layout… I got very bored deleting the random dots, his formatting is amazingly creative…

I’m with Boz here,

But don’t underestimate making such a thing from scratch ! Its a huge undetaking. For a lot of subjects you could do a simple structure like 1) topic 2) variables 3) conclusion. But like for instance, accoustics, you’ll have to devide in a lot of subcatagory’s.

#20

It would be a ton of work. Unless the idea is to just copy-paste, in which case it will be not much work, but not very useful either.

I think it’s important to take a step back and figure out what problem we are trying to solve here. Keeping KHR from dying is not a big enough problem for anyone to put any effort into this. I like Brandon, and KHR was great for it’s time, but I don’t think it’s worthy of a resurrection unless it’s essentially zero work, which it won’t be.

So, I guess to reiterate the question, what is the goal, and why?

  • Are we trying to create something that will drive traffic to this forum?
  • Are we trying to create buzz for something else?
  • Are we trying to create an altruistic source of information for all to see?
  • Are we trying to satisfy nostalgia?

None of these are wrong, but I think it’s important to understand the motives before doing it because it will help you answer a few questions, like:

  1. Is it worth doing?
  2. Are there better solutions?
  3. Will other people be willing to help?
